OUR CLUB
Welcome, fáilte. St Mary’s GFC was founded in 1969 as a result of an amalgamation of Donore GFC and Lougher GFC. Since our foundation we have introduced hundreds of children to our games and are proud to boast that many of these boys and girls are still involved today, as supporters, players and coaches.
For a small club we have had our successes, St. Mary’s players have won two 2 All-Ireland Senior football and two All-Ireland Minor football medals, and an U14 National Feile Cup. Despite our size we have excellent playing grounds and state of the art floodlights, new facilities consisting of 3 changing rooms, a gym, a referee's room, a meeting room and a community hall.
St Mary's GAA / LGFA operates under a one club policy.
The One Club model was officially launched in 2017 when the GAA and the LGFA launched official guidelines on club implementation. The objective of one club is to integrate GAA & LGFA to promote one brand, one message for the club. The one club initiative covers many aspects of the club:
-
Club Executive - It is imperative that each of the playing codes is adequately represented on the club executive.
-
Membership - The recommendation is that club membership fee levies are not varied by reference to code played.
-
Finance - A coordinated approach to finance and fundraising.
-
Coaching and Games Development - Common policies in respect of the promotion of Gaelic games among male and female players.
-
Code of Conduct - An agreed approach to Best Practice in Youth Support should be put in place by the Club Executive in accordance with the association’s joint publication Our Games Our Code
-
Social Media - One of the key aspects of the one club approach is to promote the brand with a one club message. The GAA have issued policy guidelines in relation to social media.
Our message is clear: this club is for everyone, irrespective of background or abilities, and our true strength is in our players and our volunteers.
